Builders help

Insurance and credentials we require

£5m public liability, £5m employer's liability, business registration, CIS and VAT where applicable. Contractors' all-risk recommended for structural work; PI required only if you provide design beyond design intent.

The credentials and insurance every builder in the network must hold.

Insurance

  • Public liability — £5 million minimum. Required.
  • Employer's liability — £5 million minimum. Required.
  • Builders' all-risk insurance. Recommended for structural or heavy works. Whether you carry it depends on the kind of project work you take on.
  • Professional indemnity insurance. Required only if you provide design work beyond design intent. Most network builders don't do this — design intent comes from Beams designers or the customer's own architect.

Credentials

  • Verified business registration. Limited company or sole trader, registered.
  • Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) registration if you operate under the Construction Industry Scheme. Most renovation builders do.
  • Value Added Tax (VAT) registration if your turnover is above the threshold or you've voluntarily registered.

Trade-specific accreditations

Where applicable to the work you do:

  • Gas Safe for any gas work.
  • Part P registration (NICEIC, NAPIT, or similar) for electrical work.
  • CSCS for site safety competence.
  • Other trade accreditations relevant to your specialism.

These show on your public profile as trust marks. Customers can see them and filter by them.

How we verify

At onboarding, we collect copies of certificates and verify them. At renewal, we check expiries. The platform will remind you when an insurance certificate is approaching expiry, and you upload the renewed certificate before the old one lapses.

If a certificate lapses without renewal, you can't take on new projects until it's reinstated. The platform will pause new lead allocation; you'll be notified.

Keeping certificates current

The article Updating insurance and other compliance items covers the upload process and what happens around renewal.
