Site setup and safety standards
Set up and maintain a safe, compliant site. Protect the customer's property, keep the site tidy, leave it secure each day. Standards are part of the contract.
Setting up the site well at the start sets the tone for the whole project. The article describes what's expected.
At setup
- Confirm the milestone schedule and payment roadmap on the Beams platform.
- Establish clear access routes, protection, and signage before work begins. Floor protection, dust sheets, plastic, edging — whatever the work needs.
- Construction Phase Plan in place and accessible on site.
- Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) on site. For every trade and activity. Refresh as the project moves through phases.
- Site secured. Lockable storage for tools and materials, secure perimeter, daily lock-up.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and waste management plans in place from day one.
- Customer property protected. Cover existing surfaces, fixtures, and fittings outside the working area.
Through the project
- Maintain compliance with H&S regulations. Keep the Construction Phase Plan current, RAMS on site, PPE used appropriately.
- Secure the site daily. Tools and materials stored properly; access points locked; nothing left for opportunistic theft.
- Manage waste responsibly. Skips ordered, removed on schedule, no overflow onto the street.
- Maintain protection. Floor coverings replaced as they wear, dust sheets kept up, exposed services covered.
Standards are part of the contract
The Builder Agreement sets the standard. Customers have specific expectations under the Home Improvement Contract (HIC). Both reinforce that site quality is part of the work — not an extra.
