How to prepare for your planning call
Your planning call is the first real step in your renovation journey. The more you prepare, the more useful your call will be.
It’s a free chat with your dedicated Beams planner who’ll help you shape your project, sense-check your budget, and get ready to meet vetted builders.
1. Purpose of your planning call
Your planner’s job on your call is to help you:
- Clarify what you want to change in your space.
- Set a budget range that makes sense.
- Get your project ready for builder quotes.
Meeting builders early builds trust and confidence. It’s how you’ll see what’s possible for your budget and start turning ideas into action.
2. What to do before your planning call
In your dashboard, you’ll see tasks for you to complete ahead of your call. This helps your planner understand your space and prepare meaningful advice.
🏡 Upload your floor plan
An estate agent plan or even a quick sketch is fine. If you don’t have this it’s helpful to add approximate room measurements.
📸 Add photos of your current rooms
Wide shots from each corner of the room help planners see what you’re working with. These will also be shared with builders for quoting when you’re ready.
📝 Describe what you’d like to change
Use the text box under each room in Scope to add ideas or priorities. These will trigger changes to the labour lines associated with your project, to be discussed on your call.
3. What you’ll talk about
Your planner will want to understand both the practical and personal sides of your renovation.
It helps to think about:
- What’s motivating the project?
- What’s not working today in your current space?
- How do you want to feel in your new space?
- What’s most important to you - value, speed, quality or something else?
- How much are you looking to invest?
- When would you like to start building?
- When would you like to complete the project?
Your planner will also explain how Beams works, how the builder matching process works and what happens next.
4. What happens next
After your call, your planner will:
- Update your project details in your dashboard.
- Confirm your estimated budget range and target timeline.
- Introduce you to vetted builders who fit your goals and space.
Once you’ve met builders and received quotes, you’ll be able to compare prices side by side and choose the right fit for your project.
It’s the quickest way to move from thinking about a renovation to getting real quotes in place.
