Your Greener Package
As part of our commitment to greener bathroom renovations, you’ll find recommended energy and water saving products in your Project Proposal that really make a difference.
1._Free Home Energy Assessment
How it works: We’ve partnered with trusted home energy assessment providers who will identify ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home. After the assessment, we’ll work with you to determine which recommendations you’d like to add to the scope of your renovation. Beams offers this service free of charge.
Impact: After the assessment, you’ll understand how green your home is today. Your Beams renovation is an opportunity to make it even greener. For example, the home energy assessment can reveal if your home is suitable for a heat pump, which is a zero-carbon alternative to a boiler.
2. Hot water heat recovery trays
How it works: When you use hot water in your bath and shower, the heat doesn’t need to go down the drain with the water. Recovery trays recapture the heat and reuse it to heat water the next time you turn on the bath or shower.
Impact: Hot water heat recovery trays recapture more than 50% of heat that would otherwise be lost.
3. Single room heat recovery units
How it works: These units keep heat in your room that might otherwise escape your home. They can be installed in the same place as most extractor fans. Not only are they more energy efficient, they are also quieter and offer better air quality.
Impact: Heat recovery units recapture up to 75% of heat that would otherwise be lost.
4. Boiler audit
How it works: One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy consumption is to set up your boiler correctly. This can be as simple as reducing the flow temperature (the temperature your boiler heats the water to before circulating it through your home).
Impact: With a simple change like reducing your boiler’s flow temperature by 5-10°C, you can expect to save up to 8% on bills.
5. Low flow and dual flush toilets
How it works: This one is pretty self explanatory. Low flow and dual flush toilets use less water per flush than traditional toilets.
Impact: Low flow and dual flush toilets save up to 9 litres of water per flush compared to a traditional toilet. Can’t picture that? It’s nearly 16 pints.
6. Aerated low flow taps
How it works: These taps reduce water flow without impacting your experience. Less water per minute, without any perceptible impact to water pressure. Note that you’ll notice a difference in water pressure in the shower, so we are only recommending this solution for taps.
Impact: Imagine 26 pints flowing from your tap every minute. That’s what you get with a traditional tap. With an aerated low flow tap, it’s more like 10 pints per minute.
